About the venue
Sloepenwerf Kleine Amstel works differently from most boat venues: instead of one hall on board, the party sails in a flotilla of six to eight open sloops, each holding eight to ten guests, following a shared route along the Amstel and the smaller canals larger ships can't reach. The boathouse at the yard serves as the departure and arrival point and as the spot for dinner afterwards.
The yard and boathouse together host 30 to 70 guests, and owner Marieke van der Berg, who took the yard over from her parents, plans the fleet layout herself based on party size. She arranges rain ponchos for every sloop if the weather turns and usually replies within two days. The boathouse has its own galley and a wood stove for the colder months.
