Privacy policy

Last updated: 19 July 2026

This privacy policy explains how Walima Weddings handles your personal data when you use our website. Walima Weddings is a service of VirtualFriends, based in the Netherlands.

In short: we are a directory, not a middleman. You browse listings and then contact venues yourself, directly. We do not ask for your name or contact details, and we never send them anywhere.

Who is responsible

The controller of your data is:

What data we collect

Very little. There is no form to fill in and no account to create, so we hold no contact details for you at all.

What we use data for, and our legal basis

Contacting venues

We send nothing to venues. A venue profile lists that venue's own contact details, and the WhatsApp, phone and email buttons simply open your own app with their number or address filled in. The conversation that follows happens entirely between you and the venue.

That means we never see it. We do not receive, store or forward those messages, and we do not know whether you contacted anyone. Once you get in touch, that venue is an independent data controller for whatever you choose to tell them, governed by their own privacy policy rather than this one.

The messaging apps themselves are also outside our control and subject to their own terms — WhatsApp, for example, is operated by Meta.

Parties that process data for us

We rely on a small number of parties to run the service:

PartyRole
Cloudflare, Inc.Hosting, database, image storage, and protection of the site against attacks and abuse.
Meta Platforms (WhatsApp)Only if you start a WhatsApp conversation yourself from a venue profile. We are not party to it.
OpenStreetMapMaps on venue profiles; the map server receives your IP address when a map loads.

Cookies and statistics

We use no tracking or advertising cookies and do not follow you across other websites. That is why no cookie banner is needed. The only cookies we set are functional or strictly necessary:

That is the only cookie the site sets. There is no login, so there is no session cookie, and we run no analytics or measurement script of any kind. Our hosting provider produces aggregate traffic and security statistics from server logs, as it does for any site it serves; these are not tied to you and we cannot use them to identify you.

How long we keep data

We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to keep. The favourites cookie lives on your own device and you can clear it at any time through your browser. Server logs used for security are retained by our hosting provider under their own retention schedule.

Anything you send a venue directly is kept by that venue under their own retention policy, not ours.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

In practice there is likely to be nothing for us to hand over or erase, since we hold no contact details for you. If you have contacted a venue directly, exercise these rights with that venue — they hold that conversation, not us.

To exercise any of these rights, email mustafa@virtualfriends.dev. We respond within one month.

Filing a complaint

If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, the Dutch supervisory authority: autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
