About the venue
Sahara Beach Lounge sits on the Meinerswijk floodplain, where low water exposes a wide sandy beach that gets topped up every spring and covered with a large Bedouin-style marquee lined with rugs and cushions. The idea came from owner Karim Benkirane, who wanted to bring the atmosphere of a Marrakech wedding to the riverside at Arnhem.
Karim usually replies within one day and can arrange a dhol performance for the bridal entrance alongside the usual Moroccan offering on request. The lounge is fully alcohol-free, has its own mechoui pit outside the marquee, and a sound system cleared to run deep into the night; when winter water levels rise, the lounge temporarily relocates to a fixed hall nearby.
