About the venue
Sabza Tuinhuis sits behind a courtyard on Vriesestraat, hidden behind a gate that shuts the street out completely once it swings closed. Owner Freshta Popal started the house after her own engagement, when she could not find a single hall that felt small enough for the twenty closest relatives who attend the proposal ceremony first; sabza, the Dari word for young greenery, refers to the kitchen garden she tends herself beside the terrace.
The garden house is built for 50 to 90 guests and has a covered terrace that doubles as a full hall in the rain. Freshta usually replies within two days, speaks Farsi/Dari and Dutch, and can arrange a deg cook to prepare food on site on request. There is a small separate room for the bride to get ready, free parking on the street, and no alcohol is served.
