About the venue
Restaurant Xamar is named after Mogadishu's nickname and was opened ten years ago by Hodan Warsame, who started it as an eatery for Enschede's Somali community and gradually added a wedding hall next to it. The kitchen centres on bariis iskukaris with clove and cinnamon, with camel meat as an option for anyone wanting the full traditional feast menu.
The hall seats 50 to 110 guests and has its own qaxwo corner where Somali coffee is brewed with cardamom all evening. Hodan runs an all-female service team as standard and can arrange a buraanbur performance during the celebration on request; she usually replies within two days. No alcohol is served, but fresh tea flows all evening, and parking outside is free.
