About the venue
Restaurant Baghdad Tafel is a family business owner Zainab Al-Obaidi has run since moving to Leiden, and the outdoor masgouf grill is the heart of every wedding here: whole river carp, split open and set upright around the fire, exactly as it's done in Baghdad. Guests gather round the grill to watch before dinner begins.
The garden and dining room together seat 40 to 90 guests, which suits a smaller, more personal wedding. Zainab speaks Arabic and Dutch, works with an all-female team for bridal preparation, and usually replies within two days. No alcohol is served, but tea flows all evening, and catering comes entirely from the in-house kitchen.
