About the venue

Kasteel Ravensteyn is a genuine moated castle tucked into the countryside just outside Nijmegen — not a manor house styled to look like one, but the real thing, gatehouse, drawbridge feel and all. It offers a fairy-tale backdrop for a ceremony in the historic ballroom or the walled garden, with photos taken across the water and the towers behind you, and a reception that can run through to dancing under the vaulted ceilings.

Exclusive use is the standard here: a booking takes over the whole castle and grounds for the day, seating up to 150 for the ceremony. Eight castle rooms, including a tower room as the bridal suite, let out-of-town family stay the night rather than drive home after the last dance. Castle manager Wilhelmina van Rossem usually replies within two days.

“We married in the grand hall with the fireplace lit. It was October and that was exactly right. The photos in the walled garden by the moat are the best we have, even though the sun only came out for ten minutes.”

“Father of the bride. Eight castle rooms sounds like a lot, but with family from Groningen and Limburg they filled up fast. Wilhelmina helped us divide them and arranged a hotel in Nijmegen for the rest.”

“It rained all day. The ceremony moved to the orangery and honestly, in hindsight that was lovelier than the garden would have been. Nobody made a fuss and no extra bill followed.”

“Worth knowing: you must use their own kitchen, outside catering is not possible. That was no problem for us and the dinner was good, but if you want a specific caterer this is not your venue.”

“The tower room as a bridal suite is something special. I got ready there with my sisters and I will never forget the view over the moat while dressing. Plenty of stairs, mind you.”

“We had 140 guests and the castle was entirely ours that day. No other wedding, no day-trippers in the garden. That sense of exclusivity is really what you come for.”

“You did not always get a reply straight away here, sometimes it took two days. But on the day itself every detail was right, down to the glass of water the minister wanted on the lectern before the blessing.”
Hanneke R.
