About the venue
Huis aan de Merwede is a narrow canal-side townhouse that owner Homayoun Rahimi converted five years ago into an intimate wedding venue for Afghan and Muslim weddings, after noticing how hard it was for smaller parties to find a suitable hall among the large banquet venues. The ground floor is set up as a reception and dining room overlooking the river, while the first floor holds a quiet prayer room with its own wudu facility beside the stairs, so the nikah takes place upstairs and the gathering continues below.
The house seats 30 to 60 guests, split between the dining room downstairs and the private room upstairs. Homayoun handles the catering himself from a nearby halal kitchen, usually replies within a day, and can arrange an all-female team for the bride on request. No alcohol is served anywhere on the premises, a small jetty on the water serves as a spot for photos, and a fixed set of tables, chairs and a sound system are included in the rental.
