About the venue
De Lichttempel earned its nickname from the glass domed roof added during a 2012 renovation, two decades after the Lutheran congregation's last service. Daylight floods the whole hall by day, and in the evening a subtle lighting rig sets the mood without overpowering the original brick walls. A small side room has been fitted out as a prayer room with a wudu tap.
The hall is built for 220 to 400 guests and sits within walking distance of central Enschede, handy for guests arriving by train. Manager Sara Öztürk speaks Turkish, Dutch and English and usually replies within a day; she keeps a shortlist of DJs playing both Turkish and international sets. The kitchen is halal-fitted, and the sound can run until one in the morning.
