About the venue
De Eendenkooi is a centuries-old duck decoy estate just outside Zaanstad, once used to catch wild ducks through a network of ponds and reed screens, now preserved as protected landscape around a converted barn used for receptions. The ponds and reeds remain intact, and a walking path between the decoy pools is often used for a short outdoor ceremony before dinner.
The barn seats 100 up to 220 and pairs a timber-framed roof with large sliding doors that open fully to the water in summer. Estate manager Aafke Molenaar, who usually replies within two days, has run the estate for fifteen years and works from a fixed list of outside caterers since the barn itself has no kitchen.
