About the venue
Buitenplaats De Hunzehof has stood on the bank of the Hunze river, northeast of the city, since 1887, built around a walled kitchen garden still in use for the estate’s own kitchen. The hay barn, used for livestock into the 1990s, has been converted into the reception hall with its original timber trusses left exposed. Most ceremonies take place in the orchard next to it, among old apple and pear trees.
The estate suits 80 to 200 guests and works with its own gardener-cook, who puts vegetables from the kitchen garden on the menu. Owner Bram Kuiper usually replies within a day and actively helps plan the layout of ceremony and dinner on the same grounds. A marquee is kept on standby for rainy days, parking along the driveway is free, and the couple gets their own space in the former coach house.
