About the venue
Borg Wolthuizen is one of the last inhabited manor houses in Ten Boer, in the Groningen countryside, built in 1741 on the foundations of a medieval stins and still ringed by its original moat. The orangery on the south side, once used to overwinter citrus trees, has been converted into a bright reception hall with its original glass front intact. Across the moat stands the small manor chapel, where weddings have been given a church blessing since the nineteenth century.
The manor seats 60 to 140 guests and works with a fixed caterer that has partnered with the estate for fifteen years. Steward Marieke Hazenberg lives on the grounds herself, usually replies within two days, and can arrange a short boat trip across the moat for the couple on request. Wedding cars can drive up to the drawbridge, parking on the grounds is free, and the gardens suit an outdoor ceremony with the orangery as a rain backup.
